\"SQUIRREL.jpg\"
\nAbout this print :
\nA week or so before my Mom passed away,
\nshe spoke with me about going into an assisted
\nliving facility. I thought this was odd because
\nshe resisted the idea of going into a home for
\nso long. She prized her independence so much.
\nMom felt there was too much for her to
\nhandle and one of things she mentioned
\nwas the squirrel on her porch.
\nShe was most annoyed by the man who
\nfed the birds on the floor above her as
\nhe attracted so many squirrels.
\nThis is my memorial print to my Mother and her
\nannoyance with squirrels and what to do about
\nthem.
\nI only wish I could have purchased a rifle
\nfor her now. She would have enjoyed shooting
\nat the squirrels from her comfortable chair in
\nthe living room. I can just imagine her sitting
\nin the chair with the rifle and her glass sliding-
\ndoors with large holes in them where she shot
\nat them. Now that I think of it, there might
\nhave been holes in the ceiling too.
\nI dedicated my first children\u2019s book to my
\nMother. After I sent her my book \u201cMessy Bessie,
\nWhere\u2019s My Homework? she said: \u201cYou know I
\nhate mice !\u201d
\nMom kept every drawing, postcard, print, news-
\npaper article and painting I ever did. When we
\ncleaned out her apartment, they were all there.
\nEvery one of them! She would have kept this
\nprint even though there were squirrels in it.
\nMy Mom loved her family and loved birds.
\nI\u2019ll make a bird print next.
\nI will miss her dearly.
