Located on the western edge of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fiis\/WatchHill.htm\"target=\"new\">Otis Pike High Dune Wilderness<\/a> it&#8217;s an amazing and uncrowded spot within 2 hours of New York City.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nThere are a few hazards to be wary of such as mosquito swarms, lyme-disease carrying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fireisland.com\/news\/ticks.htm\"target=\"new\">ticks<\/a>, and the occasional monster-wave which will pummel your head into the frothy sand.
